What I Hope You Get For Christmas

Sitting here tonight I was thinking all about the last year. My training, all of the projects we have going on, my goals, and those sorts of things.  It got me to thinking about everyone I have been able to work with, and their struggles and successes. I also started thinking about what I was hoping to get Christmas morning, mostly just overnight french toast (hyperlink this?), which got me thinking about what I hope you get.

  • New Gym Gear:

I don’t care who you are, or if you feel it’s too materialistic. Getting new gym clothes, bags, or toys will make anyone excited to get into the gym and show them off. This time of year is already hard enough to stay motivated with all the distractions we can face such as food, parties, or just the cold dark days. So if some new sneakers gets you fired up to hit the gym, I hope they show up under your tree. On the off chance your dream gym gear doesn’t show up, go get some for yourself. You know your sizes better anyways.

  • A Chance to Sleep In:

There is no doubt that all of us lead a life that is far too exciting, and I don’t mean you go sky diving all the time. Most people I meet are always going somewhere, doing something, and constantly stressed. So take an extra hour tomorrow morning to sleep (if your kids don’t bug you). You probably need it more than you know. If you can’t do it Christmas morning do it the next day, luckily it’s a Saturday this year.  That extra sleep is just one more thing that will help reinvigorate your workouts (maybe the only thing if you don’t get new gym gear), so appreciate it.

  • One Truly Supportive Person:

Christmas is always a blast for me. I love nothing more than getting together with the entire family whenever I can. I got really lucky having a big, incredibly supportive family, and it makes everything I try to do so much easier. However, I know there are a lot of people out there who don't have that luxury but are still trying to make positive changes in their life. My hat is off to you if you are experiencing this, because getting stronger, or fitter, or healthier is incredible hard already, and not having a support structure like that can crush you. If this is you, I hope you find that one person who makes this journey a little easier.  If you can’t find that person, we are always here to help in anyway we can.

  • A Puppy:

This one is easy, puppies are awesome. And don’t worry if you don’t live near an adoption center, you can always pick one up at a farmers market... I did.

  • Realizations:

Even if you get all of those incredible things, you won’t be able to make the most of it until you truly understand two things. First off,no matter how great or terrible your circumstances are, no one can do the work for you. The only way to reach whatever goals you set is to do the work yourself. The second thing is if you have been putting in all the work you can possibly do for months, or even a year, and aren't moving in the direction you want, what you’re doing isn’t working. That's okay, just acknowledge that and find a new path to take.

When you get up on Christmas morning, I hope all of this and more is waiting for you under the tree.
